Dogs Welcome
K9 Training
We don't run courses beginning on specific dates - dogs work at their own pace and can move up a level when they are ready.
We are always pleased for people to pop in to see us when looking for somewhere to train their dogs. Wherever you are interested in going to it is always a good idea to go to watch a training session and meet the trainers, before you make a decision to enrol for lessons.
Take the opportunity to talk-over what may be suitable breeds for your situation or preferences. Just ring for an informal chat or email me. All breeds usually have their own inherent characteristics which can be a good guide to their suitability for a particular lifestyle. i.e. Just because a dog is small does not mean it will be happy with a small amount of exercise.
Your puppy will learn to be good mannered, sociable with people and other dogs, to concentrate on their handlers, come when called, be calm and sensible and many more skills
Older puppies and beginner dogs can learn all the above but also develop more advanced skills earning Broze level awards.
Dogs are taught to be reliable, sensible & well-mannered companions, to work calmly, off lead, amongst other dogs and people, to be comfortable close to other dogs and people, to give attention to their handlers amongst distractions, to fine tune lead walking, to stay, in and out of sight, to stop when told and basic scent work games.
For dogs that have problems with other dogs or people. Individual attention may be needed initially (see 'one to one' below) and a gradual introduction to other dogs or people in a small class or individually as appropriate. When dogs are ready they can move into one of the more advanced, group classes.
This is an excellent way to teach skills quickly and effectively for dogs of all ages. Pups learn so quickly and older dogs previously trained in more traditional ways become so very interested in learning new skills.
For people who wish to do so, clicker training can be learned in any class or alternatively a designated class is possible if enough people wish to learn this superb training technique. For people interested in competitive obedience, heelwork to music or any other dog sport, where a high level of skill is required, this really is a must to achieve the accuracy necessary to do well.
This is generally a Thursday morning activity. We have a small informal group of interested people. A real fun time for the dogs.
Usually for dogs with specific problems that cannot be solved in a class situation. Some circumstances may require a home visit. On Monday evenings and Thursday mornings time can be made available, by arrangement only.
Many difficult dogs are able to go into a group class after a few weeks of special training but, for those who can't we teach people more management techniques that make life so much better for all concerned. Speaking from experience - this generally requires a good deal of effort on the part of the owners but it is well worth the trouble.
Please do not book these individual lessons unless you are really committed to helping your dog change his ways!
