Here is some information about them that you may find interesting : -

Aldyth has been involved in running training classes at all levels for a number of years, here and at other dog training establishments, mainly running  the Puppy Foundation and Gold Level of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Award Scheme.  During most of this time Gill has been her very valued assistant.  Two years ago Aldyth took over 'Dogs Welcome', as it was then known, from Alison who had been running it for eighteen years on Thursday mornings.  The group gradually grew from two classes to five, also making provision for dogs with issues who need to work individually or in very small groups.  Since September 2009 we have expanded even more, running a Monday evening group at Crawshawbooth, where we offer a full range of services, and also a puppy class at Oakmount Veterinary Centre, Burnley on Thursday evenings.

We have also been granted Kennel Club Listed Status which makes us eligible to run the Good Citizen Award Scheme Courses - Puppy Foundation, Bronze, Silver and Gold.  These fit in well with the very comprehensive training we already offer to dogs and handlers.

Judy has been bringing her own dogs to the group for the last two years.  She also spends a lot of time giving help and advice to clients during classes.  Judy is very calm and gentle with dogs and handlers and like Gill has oodles of patience.

Gill brings her dog, Finn, to train him in the Advanced class.  She also spends a lot of time happily helping individuals, particularly when they first bring their puppies or older dogs to training.  Both Judy and Gill are very much appreciated by me, the dogs and handlers for the invaluable help they give.

If you read on you will discover what a wide range of dog-related experiences we have to offer between us, though we all have one thing in common - each of us successfully rehabilitated a dog with huge problems.

 Aldyth says.....

I have had dogs of my own for more years than I care to remember, of all shapes and sizes, in fact quite a variety!  Also, until recently for most of that time I had at least one horse.  My current pals are both Border Collies, Penny who is twelve now and Wisp who is three years old.

Penny is responsible for me becoming seriously interested in how dogs learn and in helping dogs with issues.  She became very aggressive towards other dogs as she matured and I have spent years researching effective rehabilitation techniques through reading books, internet articles and attending many behaviour related workshops and seminars.   She was the nightmare that made me wonder what, after so many trouble-free dogs before her, had gone wrong.
I am still learning!!!

Introducing Wisp to our household as a tiny puppy and for Penny to accept him was another learning curve.  We were patient and careful and now they are such good friends.  Fortunately Penny has a lot of good things about her - she is very people friendly, positively adores children and has spent a lot of time going into school to work with the children there.  She is, I suppose, my dog of a lifetime - who has caused me to learn so much.  Thankfully she's a virtually reformed character - a happy, friendly, 'almost well-adjusted' dog whose passion for kids is unquenchable!!!!

My main interests :-

Competitive Obedience
-
though not often at present.
Heelwork To Music - I go to Derbyshire for regular training and have recently started to compete with Wisp.
We gained second place in our first competition in May.

Clicker Training -
I already have CAP Levels 1 & 2 qualification and am now working towards Level 3, going for regular lessons.  Using a clicker is an excellent way to train dogs as they learn quickly and accurately.  It is particularly useful when teaching specific skills.  I could not have taught Wisp the things he does so well and with so much joy any other way. Even Penny is not finding herself too old to learn new tricks.
Training Dogs- I enjoy helping people to teach their dogs to become really well-behaved, and to see them develop a strong bond.  I also like working with 'problem dogs' very much - a legacy of 'reforming' Penny.
I am an ADTB Accredited Instructor.  (see links page)

Herding Sheep - Thanks to the generosity of a neighbouring farmer Wisp and I are learning to herd sheep.
We really do enjoy ourselves!

Gill says.....

I have been training dogs for seven years and have two super dogs of my own.  Banshee is a Great Dane x Bull Mastiff and Finn is a German Shepherd x Border Collie.

As Banshee has a tendency to be aggressive towards other dogs I have had to learn about effective training and rehabilitation methods, consequently I too have been to numerous workshops and seminars during the last few years, often with Aldyth.  I have learned such a lot from having this challenging dog and really enjoy passing on my knowledge and being able to help other people who have dogs with issues.

Finn and Banshee

My other dog, Finn is a very gentle soul who used to be very unsure of many things.  He has responded so well to our change over to Clicker Training and is now a happier, much more relaxed boy who really loves to learn new things.  Without doubt Clicker Training and the resultant gentle handling is, in my opinion, the best way of teaching dogs

My main interests :-

Competitive Obedience
-
During the summer Finn and I enter competitions in Northern England.  This year we have had so much fun and have been awarded a number of rosettes.
Clicker Training -
I also have CAP Levels 1 & 2 qualification and am now working towards Level 3, going for regular lessons.  I have seen the positive effects of this training on my own and other dogs and believe it to be an excellent way forward - free from the harsh handling so often seen in the past.
Training Dogs - I really enjoy helping people learn how to teach their dogs in a kind and effective way and watching them develop together.
I have recently become an ADTB Accredited Instructor.

Assistance Dogs -
I am a Pet Assistance Instructor for Dog Aid, an organisation that helps people train their dogs to become Assistance Dogs.  My own dog, Finn, is a great help to me and I do enjoy teaching him to perform a variety of tasks.  He certainly makes a huge difference to my life.

Judy says.....

I have always been around animals in some way or other but it wasn't until I got married that I got my first dog, Rebel - and he sure was! He was a 'rescue', a real escape artist!  Two years later came Sandy.  This was my first experience of introducing a new dog into a household.
We now have five dogs and one cat.

        Ben with Judy

Until Ben appeared on the scene I thought I knew all about training dogs
.  How wrong was I !!!.  Ben had anxiety and dog aggression issues from an early age, but I didn’t know how to deal with them.  This started me off on my ‘journey' – firstly by reading many dog training books and attending the Canine Studies course at college.

Many trials and errors
later we began to get on the right path.  Activities such as agility, clicker training and heelwork to music, which Ben really enjoyed,  strengthened the bond we had - and kept him occupied so that he didn't feel the need for his aggressive behaviours.   Several years later and with many hit and miss strategies behind us I have found something that works.

My main interests :-

Training Dogs
- People watch me train my dogs on our walks and I'm frequently asked for training tips….   As a result of this I began looking after dogs whilst their owners go on holidays which has helped me gain considerable experience introducing new dogs into an established pack and I've also learned about different breeds and temperaments and how to work with them.    I have also learned a great deal about dog behaviour and training due to Ben’s issues.  I have him to thank for my experiences!  Sadly my much-loved Ben died a the end of 2009!
Complementary Therapies
-  I have been interested in complementary therapies for many years.  I became a Reiki Master in 1998 and qualified as a Holistic Therapist in 2000.  This led me to learn how to apply these to dogs and other animals.  I’ve attended courses for Animal Communication, Dog Training and Behaviour, Hydrotherapy, Shiatsu, Tellington Touch  and Clicker Training.  My dogs have also experienced Bach Flower Remedies, Bowen, Physiotherapy, and Reiki.
Aromatherapy for Animals -
At present, I am studying for a Diploma in Zoopharmacognosy (Aromatherapy for Animals!) and later hope to do a Diploma in Canine Massage.
